PEREGRINATIO 2026 Meetings – Colloquium Cycle
Colloquia will be held in a hybrid format (in person and online)
“Narratives” on May 28
“Spaces” on October 15
The first edition of the PEREGRINATIO Meetings – Colloquium Cycle will launch in 2026. This initiative is dedicated to the study of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages and is promoted by the research network PEREGRINATIO – Research Network for the Study of Pilgrimage in the Middle Ages, in partnership with the Institute for Medieval Studies of NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities (IEM – NOVA FCSH) and the Centre for the Study of Religious History of the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP-CEHR), under the coordination of Maria Filomena Andrade, João Luís Fontes, and Paulo Catarino Lopes.
With an annual structure of two meetings (one per semester), this cycle aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue around the multiple dimensions of the phenomenon of pilgrimage.
The inaugural meeting, to be held on May 28, 2026 (Thursday), from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, will be dedicated to the theme “Narratives”, bringing together researchers Elvira Fidalgo Francisco (University of Santiago de Compostela), Carlos Clamote Carreto (NOVA FCSH), and Paulo Catarino Lopes (NOVA FCSH). This first session aims to reflect on the narrative forms associated with the practice of pilgrimage in the medieval context.
Under the theme “Spaces”, the second meeting will take place on October 15, 2026, and will feature contributions from Paulo Almeida Fernandes (University of Coimbra), Carla Varela Fernandes (NOVA FCSH), and Ángel Fuentes Ortiz (Complutense University of Madrid).
The colloquia will be held in a hybrid format (in person and online), and the venue and access link for each session will be announced in due course.
