Between 18 and 19 April, the 21st Course on Military Orders – The House of Avis and the Military Orders – took place in Palmela. The initiative included presentations by several specialists in Portuguese medieval history, focusing on figures, institutions and political dynamics associated with the House of Avis and the military orders.
Among the participants were three IEM researchers. Miguel Metelo de Seixas presented the paper “King Duarte: A Pivotal and Forgotten Monarch”; João Luís Fontes discussed “Lord Infante D. Fernando: Prince, Knight and Saint”; and Luís Filipe Oliveira presented “Avis and Santiago: The Orders of Prince João”.
