Applications are open until 31 January for the 2026/27 edition of the Simon Barton Postgraduate & ECR Conference Prize, an initiative of the Society for the Medieval Mediterranean aimed at providing financial support to postgraduate students and early-career researchers in organizing small conferences, symposia, workshops, and public engagement or outreach initiatives. Proposed events — whether in-person, hybrid, or online — should align with the Society’s objectives and focus on aspects of the history and culture of the Mediterranean between the 5th and 15th centuries.

Funding may be awarded up to £1,000 and is not eligible for senior researcher fees or travel expenses. Supported events must be completed by 30 April 2027.

Eligible applicants include master’s or doctoral students, as well as early-career researchers within four years of completing their PhD, provided they do not hold a permanent position.
