Another fieldwork campaign of the GAP – Guarda Archaeological Project has come to an end. The project is developed by the Institute of Medieval Studies (IEM), NOVA FCSH, in collaboration with several national and international institutions.
Over the past few weeks, an international team of researchers and students worked daily at different locations across the Guarda region, with three teams operating simultaneously in separate areas and archaeological sites. The campaign combined non-invasive methods, archaeological survey, and excavation, generating new data, testing research hypotheses, and advancing our understanding of patterns of territorial occupation and the development of communities and landscapes in the interior of Portugal.
The campaign also provided an important opportunity for archaeological training, with students actively involved in every stage of the fieldwork, from recording and documenting archaeological evidence to excavation and the discussion of results. This work was only possible thanks to the dedication, coordination, and daily commitment of the entire team.

With the completion of the fieldwork, a new phase now begins, focused on the study of the recovered materials and the analysis of the data collected. The field campaign has come to an end, but the research continues.
