José Vicente de Bragança (1947–2024) was an eminent figure in research on heraldry, phaleristics, ex-libris studies, and the history of military orders—scholarly fields that he also actively promoted while serving as Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Republic and of the Portuguese Honorific Orders, a position he held from 1988 to 2006.

This symposium in his honour is organised by the Institute for Medieval Studies (IEM) – NOVA FCSH, in partnership with the Portuguese Institute of Heraldry, the Phaleristics Academy of Portugal, the Portuguese Ex-Libris Academy, the Research Office on the Order of Santiago, and the Foundation of the Houses of Fronteira and Alorna. It will take place at the Fronteira Palace, in Lisbon, on 21 January 2026.

At the conclusion of the symposium, the book Às Armas! Heráldica do Exército Português, by Miguel Metelo de Seixas and José Estevéns Colaço, published by Editora Cultura in partnership with the Portuguese Army, will be launched.
