At the end of the afternoon on July 8th, at the National Archive Torre do Tombo, the catalog for the exhibition ‘José Mattoso: Making History, Rethinking Memory’ will be launched. The exhibition is on display from April 22nd to June 17th.

Under the scientific coordination of Amélia Aguiar Andrade, Bernardo Vasconcelos e Sousa, João Luís Fontes, and Luís Filipe Oliveira, the catalog offers a journey through the exhibition’s themes and pieces, creating a dialogue between their patrimonial and historical value and their connection to José Mattoso’s work and legacy. It thus highlights the memory of a personal journey, revealing both the utterly innovative way in which Mattoso interpreted the past—through the diversity of its testimonies and traces—and his understanding of the pivotal role of archives and archivists as guardians and promoters of our collective memory.

The catalog brings together over twenty texts by renowned medievalists from various Portuguese universities and archivists, in a bilingual edition (Portuguese and English). It will be available in both digital and printed formats.
