The Guarda Archaeological Project (GAP) will be presented at the upcoming GIA Research Seminar, to be held on June 4th at the University of Groningen (The Netherlands).
This multidisciplinary project, coordinated by the Institute for Medieval Studies (IEM), focuses on rural settlement dynamics in the Guarda region, with particular emphasis on Iron Age, Roman period, and Early Middle Ages sites such as Cabeço das Fráguas, Castro do Jarmelo, and Póvoa do Mileu.
Combining field archaeology, geophysical surveying, and interdisciplinary analyses, GAP investigates how indigenous landscapes and structures were adapted within the context of the Roman Empire and during the transition to the Middle Ages.
The project stems from a scientific collaboration between the Institute for Medieval Studies, the University of Groningen, and the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome, with support from the Guarda Municipal Council and the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds.
The presentation will be available online: meet.google.com/nsn-xewt-vfc
