Sara Prata, an IEM researcher already holding a Junior CEEC contract, now sees the relevance of her research further confirmed through the awarding of funding to her project ARCHAEMAP – An Archaeological Analysis of Early Medieval Agricultural Practices. The project is structured around two main questions: 1) How did early medieval communities transform rural landscapes? 2) How can we use this knowledge to promote a more sustainable future?

Taking the Upper Alentejo as its starting point, the project builds upon a long research trajectory grounded in an interdisciplinary archaeological approach. The funding will now make it possible to take this research further through an innovative combination of methodologies that will provide a deeper understanding of early medieval rural contexts. Alongside research activities, scientific production and dissemination, the ARCHAEMAP project also includes an ambitious outreach plan featuring the development of a digital exhibition and local science communication initiatives.
