Tiago Viúla de Faria, Integrated Researcher at the Institute for Medieval Studies (IEM), has been awarded the Martha Driver ATBL–Medieval Academy of America Research Fellowship for 2026–2027, as part of the fellowship programme promoted by the American Trust for the British Library (ATBL).
ATBL Research Fellowships are awarded through a highly competitive evaluation process. Eligible applicants must have already received a research grant from one of ATBL’s fourteen American partner institutions. The fellowship will support a new research stay at the British Library, where Tiago Viúla de Faria will develop a project on the relationships between humans and birds of prey in the Middle Ages.
Tiago Viúla de Faria holds a DPhil in History from the University of Oxford. He is an Integrated Researcher at IEM and an Invited Professor at the University of Coimbra. He is the founder and co-coordinator of the NEMUS network and Principal Investigator of the FALCO project. His research focuses on diplomacy, politics, cultural exchange, environmental history, and medieval animal studies. This distinction represents an important international recognition of his academic achievements and of the research carried out at IEM.
